In this course, we examine several results in the "classical theory" of 2-dimensional minimal surfaces. We start by considering the famous examples that one can obtain through the Weierstrass representation, hence we proceed with the parametric approach of Douglas and Rado to the existence theory of minimizers for the Plateau problem, examine the corresponding regularity theory and the famous result of Osserman,
